Oct 15-16th Enjoy A Day Or Two With Orit Reuben In Beautiful Downtown Winter Garden

DESCRIPTION

Study pastel painting with Orit Reuben in the studio and en plein air.

Award-winning pastel Orit Reuben, will be teaching two one-day pastel workshops.
Pastel Painting in the Studio and Pastel Painting En Plein Air. Students are welcome to take one or both workshops.

Pastel Painting in The Studio

In this one-day workshop, you will practice painting with pastel on sanded pastel paper using a photo reference. Apart from learning to use soft pastels, you will learn about values, color temperature, and depicting a three-dimensional form on a two-dimensional surface. You will also learn about how to achieve luminosity in your paintings.

Pastel Painting En Plein Air

In this one-day workshop, students will learn how to simplify the plein air painting process in pastel. You will learn how to decipher the landscape scene in front of you into a simplified composition. The workshop will focus on the process of plein-air painting, values, color temperature and the principles of landscape painting

MATERIALS

Pastels

A variety of colors, from warm to cool, and darkest to lightest, brights and greys. At least 60 and preferably more, in different levels of hardness. I use the sides of the sticks so I peel the paper off prior to using. Blick or Dakota Art Pastels have a variety of brands, sets and singles. If you are just starting, I recommend a starter set with at least 100 sticks with a variety of warm and cool tones. The Sennelier Half Stick Paris Collection may be a good starting point for you. You may need additional supplemental sticks.

  • A brown pastel pencil for drawing
  • A few hard NuPastels: Recommended 305 Spruce Blue, a warm tone such as a burnt umber or burnt sienna, an ochre or yellow such as Light Ochre 243 and a pink such as Orchid Pink 306
  • A bright yellow pastel for underpainting, preferable hard, like Rembrandt

Paper
Sanded paper for pastels, mid-warm tones preferred. I don’t paint on traditional non-sanded paper, because it doesn’t hold enough layers, and non-sanded paper will not be suitable for this workshop.

  • I don’t paint on white paper, but you can pre-tone a UArt 400 grit if needed.
  • Pastel premier in Italian Clay or Terracotta.
  • LaCarte by Senellier is also okay in a warm tone, peach sand or salmon
  • Other brands are okay if you are used to them and they are a mid warm tone or pre-toned.
  • Size: Small size, 8×10 or 9×12, (11×14 is also okay if you consider yourself a fast painter)

Alcohol and cheap brushes
Rubbing alcohol for underpainting if using white paper.

Backboard
A small board larger than the paper to mount the paper

Tape
White artist tape: 3/4” with okay (for mounting paper to back board).

Sketching

  • Small sketchbook or paper - Grey paper
  • Black marker

Cleaning Supplies

  • Paper towels or small microfiber cloth (I use the microfiber cloth because it’s washable
    and there is no waste)
  • A small pack of wet wipes or diaper wipes to clean your hands. (I use diaper wipes by Seven Generations. They are biodegradable and don’t contain parabens.)
  • A small bag for trash

Carrier:

Some sort of carrier for your pastels or equipment. Here are some options:
● A mobile cart (Office Depot or Home Depot)
● A mobile bag or mobile backpack
