Henry Yan is a nationally respected Artist and Instructor from the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco. You can learn more about him here on his website, and see some of the amazing pieces that he has created here in his portfolio.

We were very fortunate to host his recent workshop the week of May 28 through June 1st here at SOBO. Our sold out class was such a success that we have already scheduled another class for January 7-11, 2020.

Over the five days Henry covered many topics. He discussed the how and why of the materials used and taught students two different artistic approaches to the subject matter. Whether it was foreshortening, fabric folds, local color, warm & cool light sources, or studying structure & form, his demonstrations gave students the understanding and the tools to make great strides as artists.

Special thanks to our own Anne Ryan (a SOBO Artist and member of our Winter Garden Art Association) for all of her hard work in making this class a reality. She hosted Henry Yan at her house to save our art association money and was also kind enough to personally donate 10 new easels and tables for the students to use. Thanks Anne!
