Workshop – Quick Fun

Award winning artist Hai-Ou Hou, owner of Chesapeake Fine Arts Studio in Maryland, will provide a 2-day intensive workshop designed to stimulate the artist’s mind in order to produce rapid, powerful paintings in an alla prima (wet on wet) technique. Subjects include: paint mixing using the palette knife; improving color quality; creating bright expressive colors on the palette; using greys to develop intensity and value while avoiding a muddy appearance; employing texture to the artist’s advantage. Hai-Ou will share a number of “tricks” to producing expressive, vibrant paintings. Her techniques and paint application methods will improve the quality of plein-air work and studio paintings for both the beginner and the advanced artist. Students will practice paint mixing using instructor supplied materials but should bring their own materials to conduct painted color studies. You may register for both days or only one day.

Students should bring: Personal paints and equipment plus at least two 11×14″ or 12×16″ panels.

Fee: $295 for 2 days/ $165 for one day
