Orchids: Botanical Painting in Watercolor or Colored Pencil
Saturday-Sunday, April 4-5, 10:30 am – 4 pm
Artist Mindy Lighthipe
Orchids are irresistable. The dazzling array of colors and bizarre shapes make orchids a favorite for artists to paint. In this 2 day workshop learn to draw and paint the unique characteristics of these fascinating exotic plants. You will study and draw components of the plant and create a composition including the root system to make a beautiful, traditional botanical painting. Mindy Lighthipe has taught Botanical Illustration at the NY Botanical Garden for 20 years and currently teaches Natural Science Illustration at The University of Florida.
Students may work in watercolor, watercolor pencils and/or colored pencil. A suggested supply list will be sent to students by the instructor.
This course is open to all levels but drawing skills are recommended.
Fee: $200 members/$225 non-members
Orchid plants will be provided to students and there is a $25 material fee due in cash to the instructor on the first day of the workshop.
