Pastels on Brown Paper
Saturday November 4, 10 am – 2:30 pm
Artist: Mary Beth Lesko
“Pastel painting can be traced back to the sixteenth century… Degas was the most prolific user and champion of pastel, raising it to the full brilliance of oil. His protege, Mary Cassatt, introduced the Impressionists and pastel to her wealthy friends in Philadelphia and Washington, and thus to the United States. Today, many of our most renowned living artists distinguish themselves in pastels and enrich the world with this glorious medium.” – Flora B. Giffuni PSA founder (1919-2009)
This workshop will teach you the techniques of pastel painting on brown artist paper. The instructor will provide the paper and set up a still life. You will make an underdrawing from the still life setup. You will learn about making marks with pastels to create form and volume, mix color, blend, convey texture, and create outline and detail. Most of all you will have fun with one of the oldest art forms around. To learn more about the history of Pastel Art check out The Pastel Society of America

What People Are Saying About Mary Beth Lesko
Mary Beth is a very skilled and talented artist. I was so appreciative of how well prepared and organized she was to teach an entry workshop. She answered many questions, gave us examples to learn from and she walked around the class making a great effort to help everyone. Since taking her workshop I have enjoyed doing some colored pencil drawings at home. I also ordered the instruction book she highly recommended. I felt her workshop was very productive and educational. Thank You! –KC 1-18-17
