Cracking the Art Code: Part 2 – Symbols
Lecturer – Adrienne Lee
Saturday, October 13, 12pm – 1:30pm
Have you ever seen a painting and wondered, “What on earth is going on here?” Have you ever seen a work of art and thought, “What is this artist trying to say?” This three-part series will strengthen your analytical art skills and empower you to “read” paintings. Look for the clues that each artist includes in their paintings and get to the very heart of a work of art. It’s like solving a mystery!
Part 2: Symbols – Symbols have played a vital role in the development of our culture, the roots of which can be found in art. For example, today we see the symbol of an apple on a multitude of electronic devices and it has become synonymous with technological advancement. However, the apple symbolizes evil and temptation when depicted in a Medieval Christian painting.

I can honestly say I have not enjoyed an art lecture nor art lecturer as much since seeing videos of Rosamond Bernier at the Orlando Museum of Art. Now we have Adrienne Lee to carry on in this fine tradition of informing and entertaining. LL 3-27-17
