ATHMOSPHERIC WATERCOLOR PAINTING FOR BEGINERS
Beginning Watercolors: A 1-2-3 Approach
Learn the foundational techniques of watercolor painting in this beginner-friendly three-session series. Perfect for anyone looking to build confidence with watercolors while exploring creative expression.
Session 1:
Get to know watercolor as a medium! Learn the basics of color mixing, values (lights and darks), and design principles through direct painting, negative space, and wet-into-wet washes.
Session 2:
Dive into composition and visual storytelling. Discover how to break down what you see into shapes, textures, and edges—soft vs. hard—to define your subject.
Session 3:
Put your skills to the test by creating a finished painting from either a photograph or your own sketch. Choose your subject and bring it to life using the techniques you’ve learned.
Objectives:
By the end of the course, students will:
-
Identify 3 compositional styles
-
Use direct painting, wet-into-wet washes, and negative space
