EXPLORING SUMI-E
Sumi-e means Ink Painting in Japanese. Born in China over a thousand years ago and brought to Japan by Buddhist monks, Sumi-e is the simple painted essence of a subject. Traditional Asian calligraphy and philosophy are the foundation of this unique and beloved art form. This session explores brush strokes and their applications to traditional subjects like bamboo, lotus, flowers and fruit. Students will use authentic brushes, ink and paper. All materials provided.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Fontaine Rodgers is an award winning artist. She is a graduate of the Maryland Institute, College of Art where she majored in printmaking and drawing. Her studio is in DeLand where she focuses on printmaking, and expanding the public’s knowledge of fine art prints. She is the current president of the Central Florida Printmakers. Additionally, She teaches adults and teens at the Museum of Art Deland and Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park. Learn more at www.centralfloridaprintmakers.com
