Art Encounters, sponsored by the Winter Garden Art Association, brings the joy and transformative power of art to children living at Edgewood Children’s Ranch. Lead by Renée Schneider, founder of ArtWorks-Orlando, this innovative program uses art and the creative process to build self-esteem and confidence, improve problem solving skills and enhance personal expression. Students participating in Art Encounters also learn key art concepts, vocabulary, and techniques and explore multiple art mediums. In addition to art classes students have the opportunity to exhibit and sell their art at SoBo Gallery and attend opening receptions. At these receptions the interaction between the children, their art, and adult gallery guests is personal and impactful. Encounters that foster compassion and awareness in the community of the many challenges at-risk children face. Art Encounters reaches 40 - 45 Edgewood residents ages 10 – 18 each school year.
